Billy Bragg : A New England

I have always been a big fan of Billy Bragg, not just his music, but also what he says in his songs… I know that some of his songs can get over preachy about his politics, but his heart is always in the right place when he says what he says, and that’s pretty rare in a performer these days. I remember seeing him at First Ave, with Robyn Hitchcock opening up, and it was on Halloween. One of the best shows I have ever been too. He even talked about how Paul Wellstone was a good man and politician and that we should all support his efforts. Incredible that he was so politically aware that he even knew about our politics here in Minnesota. This song is one of his early songs, but still one of his best. It shows how a great song can be stripped down to just a man and his guitar. It’s an anthem, and is a classic in it’s simplicity. Just an amazing song. Well, enjoy it.
